  • After collection from the Greenock cruise terminal, we head north, crossing the River Clyde and heading towards the Scottish Highlands. Our first stop is the scenic village of Luss, nestled on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond. Here you’ll have time to explore the village and take in the sights of Scotland’s largest loch.

From Luss, our journey continues deeper into the National Park. Our route will take us into Argyll and over the ‘Rest and Be Thankful’ – a stunning mountain pass viewpoint which divides Glen Kinglas from Glen Croe. The name comes from a stone inscribed by soldiers who built the original military road in 1753, expressing their gratitude for reaching the summit. We’ll pause here to enjoy the views and learn about the history of this spot. After this short stop, the road opens up onto Loch Fyne which is famous around the world for its succulent seafood, including oysters, langoustines and mussels.

From here we’ll work our way into Argyll, arriving in the charming town of Inveraray – a former royal burgh and the ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll and Clan Campbell. The streets here are lined with elegant buildings characterised by their white-washed facades and black window frames. We’ll stop here for lunch, and you can explore the town at your leisure.

We recommend a visit to Inveraray Castle and Gardens* (£), where you can discover the fascinating stories of Clan Campbell, one of the most influential Scottish Clans. Take the opportunity to explore the opulent rooms and picturesque gardens of this striking castle, which has stood on the shores of Loch Fyne since the 1400s.

*Please note - Inveraray Castle is closed Tuesdays and Wednsdays during the season. We recommend a visit to Inveraray Town Jail as an alternative.

After exploring Inveraray, we’ll stop for lunch. Our recommendations are:
    • The George Hotel
    • Samphire Seafood
    • Loch Fyne Oysters

The George Hotel and Samphire Seafood are both in Inveraray town, while Loch Fyne Oysters is just a 15-minute drive away. We’re happy to make a reservation at your chosen restaurant.

After lunch our journey continues around the quiet side of Loch Fyne towards Loch Eck – a hidden gem located on the western most side of the national park, surrounded by lush forests and serene landscapes. Here we recommend visiting Pucks Glen, where you can enjoy a walk surrounded by nature. Follow the winding paths to find numerous cascading waterfalls and feel the magical atmosphere. You might even catch sight of Ghillie Dhu – just one of the mystical Scottish fairies said to live here!

Alternatively, you can explore the Clyde coastal town of Dunoon. Once a popular destination for Glasgow workers who would arrive by paddle steamer, Dunoon is worth a visit for the quaint shops or and exploring the ruined castle. The castle's strategic location overlooking the Firth of Clyde made it an essential stronghold in the region during medieval times. It has long historic links with the Clan Lamont.

As your shore excursion draws to a close, we'll journey back to the Greenock port via a short ferry crossing over the ‘watter’, giving you time to reflect on the incredible journey you’ve taken through Scotland’s first national park and ancient clan lands.

  • Clothing
Glasgow comedian and actor Sir Billy Connolly famously said of Scotland that “there’s no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes”.

It’s true that no matter what the season, the weather in Scotland can be “changeable”. We suggest that you bring suitable clothing for all conditions, including a waterproof jacket and plenty of layers, particularly in the winter months.

Ensure you bring shoes that are suitable for short walks on rough or uneven terrain and, if you plan to do any hiking, we recommend appropriate boots.

    The infamous Scottish midge
In the spring/summer months, we highly recommend you pack insect repellent to keep midges away, especially in the highlands. While bites aren’t painful at the time, they can become itchy and uncomfortable afterwards.

    Cash or card?
Although all attractions we visit accept card payments, we would also recommend bringing cash with you.

    And…
Don’t forget a camera to snap the fantastic memories you’ll make on tour with us!
